While Glenn Martens was occupied leading Diesel’s spectacle-making Milan Fashion Week show, the designer’s French label, Y/Project, announced that it would no longer go forward with its Paris show the following week.
“Very honestly, we had a cash flow issue,” Martens told Vogue of the decision. “We did the commercial showroom during men’s week [in January], and we actually did grow. But at a certain point, you have to make a choice. It’s €450,000 EUR for a show, or €450,000 EUR for pre-payment for production and making sure the collection is on time on the sales floor.”
For the 2024 season, instead of holding a runway show, Y/Project chose to release their Fall/Winter 2024 collection via a lookbook – bring aboard a star-studded cast which includes models Irina Shayk, Kim Peers, and Natasha Poly. Editors Camille B Waddington, Haley Wollens, Olivier Zham, and Mel Ottenberg. Along with musical artists, Charli XCX, Tyga, and Ye.
The collection was shot by photographer Arnaud Lajeunie and also marks the 10-year celebration of Glenn Martens as head of the Y/Project. Among the standout looks, fashion consultant and stylist Ursina Gysi wears a duvet-esque overcoat with a wrapped denim top, that connects to a pair of trousers in an identical material.
The founder of Lamine Badian Kouyaté, Xuly Bet, wears a pair of deconstructed black jeans under a trench coat that’s half monotone color and half flannel material. Charli XCX look includes a fur-based leather coat paired with a checkered button-up and flared denim pants with a sheer hood. Rapper Tyga’s outfit for the photoshoot consists of a reptile-laden jacket, oversized trousers, and mules in an alien-like blue hue.
