A Modern Classic 2002 BMW M5 Surfaces At Auction

Update: The 2002 BMW M5 sold for $110,000 USD. For reference, the base MSRP for a 2002 BMW M5 was $69,900 USD excluding fees and a 2025 BMW M5 has a base MSRP of $119,500 USD.
Original Story: A mint condition BMW M5 with one 12k miles, is currently up for auction via Bring A Trailer. This unique example, chassis code E39, was originally purchased in California with one owner, until it was purchased by the current selling/dealer in 2015.
The original owner purchased this example in Sterling Grey Metallic exterior– over black Nappa Point leather interior complemented with a Shadowline trim, sunroof, trunk spoiler and quad exhaust outlets, rear valance, and rocker panels –which the seller notes that the front bumper received a paintless ding removal (PDR) and paint protection film (PPF). Additionally, this E39 M5 rides on 18” Style 65 wheels and has been fitted with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires – which also comes with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

Under the bonnet is a 4.9-liter S62 V8 with individual throttle bodies (ITBs) and a double-VANOS continuously variable valve timing paired with a Getrag six-speed manual transmission and a Limited-Slip Differential—initially rated at 394 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque when new. Maintenance records from 2015-2025, includes changing of transmission fluids, and replacing differential seals in addition to servicing exterior and interior elements.
Inside, the cabin features the original heated and power-adjustable front seats in black Nappa Point leather with black carpeting. The car retains its original cassette stereo and trucked-mounted CD changer with an M Audio plus enhanced bass—Additionally, this M5 received the euro-spec trim, with Anthracite visible on the headliner, dashboard, door panels, and center console.
