ENGINEERED GARMENTS
Daiki Suzuki of Engineered Garments released a masterclass in urban fashion storytelling via his most current release. This season’s drop is a clear love letter to the chaotic beauty of major metropolitan cities such as New York and Tokyo.
The collection is a visual narrative in clothing form. It consists of newsboy vests, oversized trenches, and umbrellas that belong at home in a noir film set in the streets of NYC or Paris, in short, the pieces are wearable art. Engineered Garments' mastery of using print in its clothing is again on full display. Stripes, checks, tie-dye, patchwork – it's an array of textures and patterns that somehow always feel effortlessly cohesive. For a seasoned eye like mine, it’s a masterclass in mixing neutral tones with eye-catching patterns.

The beige corduroy overalls, paired with the Newsboy cap, and a printed jacket that's equal parts statement and staple. The grey-blue quarter-snap layered under a navy velveteen bomber is a casual and elevated look.
Striped suits over technical hoodies and trench coats add a bit of refinement and a unique mix of corporate yet off-duty. The monotone herringbone suits with bucket hats introduce a bit of play to an otherwise business-only affair. The tie-dye cargo vest over a grey overcoat and suit pants is a bold and edgy move that only the most confident of stylish people should attempt. It makes a statement that one is not new to this but true to this and also knows how to have a bit of fun with their wardrobe.
Engineered Garments understood the assignment. They understood the nuances of style within a major city, and translated said nuances into a collection that resonated with its target audience. This collection was truly a lesson on how to build a wardrobe that tells a unique story. And in a place like New York City, your personal story is and means everything.
