Primary Wave Music has announced that it has officially acquired a 50% stake in the estate of the late rapper, Notorious B.I.G., valued at approximately $200 million. This acquisition encompasses the iconic artist's music publishing, recordings, and pivotal rights to his name, image, and likeness.
The deal, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, was finalized shortly after the passing of Voletta Wallace, the beloved mother of the rapper, who played an instrumental role in shaping the estate’s direction. Sources indicate that Wallace was actively engaged in the negotiations surrounding various agreements. Her foresight and dedication ensured that the estate would continue to flourish in the years to come.

Notably, Wallace had been proactive about protecting Biggie’s legacy long before her passing. Initially, the estate shared a 50-50 split of publishing rights with Bad Boy Records following the rapper's untimely death in 1997. However, in the early 2000s, she skillfully managed to increase the estate’s stake to 85%, ultimately regaining full control by 2020.
The estate and Primary Wave will collaborate on all business moving forward in an effort to continue the incredible and innovative work done thus far with one goal in mind, to keep the legacy of the Notorious B.I.G. alive.
