Eli Tomac and Shane McElrath delivered impressive performances at the 2024 WSX Australian GP, winning all their races in the FIM World Supercross Championship WSX 450cc and SX2 250cc categories. Both riders glowed throughout the weekend at HBF Park, consistently finishing at the top in nearly every session. For Tomac, the event had a rough start; two-time WSX vice champion Joey Savatgy claimed Superpole on Saturday, and Tomac initially struggled in the first moto. However, he made a remarkable comeback, winning GP Race 1 on Saturday and then dominating every remaining race, leading every lap until the SuperFinal.

On Sunday, Tomac continued to assert his dominance, although Savatgy managed to triumph in a thrilling GP Race 2. Nevertheless, with three wins over the weekend, Tomac's overall performance was unassailable, securing him his third victory of the season with a record of 1-3-1-1 on Sunday. Throughout both rounds in Australia, Ken Roczen and Savatgy emerged as Tomac's closest competitors. Roczen finished second on Saturday and took third on Sunday, while Savatgy managed to better Roczen on Sunday, finishing second overall after placing third on Saturday. Roczen, the defending two-time World Champion, had an uphill battle, often lagging at the start and making small but significant errors.
After the weekend, Roczen holds second place in the WSX Riders’ Standings with 257 points, trailing Tomac, who leads with 303 points and has won 10 individual races this season. Savatgy is in third, just six points behind Roczen as they head into the season finale, the WSX Abu Dhabi GP, on December 4.
In the SX2 category, Shane McElrath matched Tomac's dominance, winning overall on both days and nearly achieving a perfect sweep in each round. His Saturday began with an exciting duel against Coty Schock in the first moto, but McElrath pulled ahead as the night progressed. While Schock had a strong showing, a serious crash in GP Race 2 impacted his overall performance, giving McElrath the upper hand. Schock ended the day with a record good enough for third.

On Sunday, McElrath continued his winning streak, topping SuperPole and winning two of the three motos. Despite losing GP Race 3 to Schock, McElrath clinched the overall victory by winning the SuperFinal. This win leaves him leading the SX2 Riders’ Standings with 293 points, while Schock trails behind with 236. Enzo Lopes, who was competing closely with Schock for the runner-up position, finished in third overall after experiencing a mishap in GP Race 3 when a box cover hindered his progress. Regardless, he remains a close contender, just two points behind Schock in the standings.
The excitement of the 2024 FIM World Supercross Championship will culminate on December 4 with the WSX Abu Dhabi GP, where four world champions will be crowned at Etihad Arena.
