PORSCHE

One of my favorite hobbies is spent play around with Porsche's online configurator. The German automaker is known for offering a wide range of options for customization, which makes for an endless set of vehicle specifications– whether you're currently shopping for one in real life or just pretending. With the latest electric version of the Macan, that was just revealed, we wanted to highlight two versions of the combustion-powered alternative Macan, we took to the 2024 Macan build-your-own tool to build what we consider the perfect Daily and Enthusiast car specifications.

The "Daily" Macan

My initial plan was to set an imaginary budget of $85,000 as my base amount– with $5,000 for options such as paint color, wheels, interior materials, and tech options. The Macan S starts at $72,300– we quickly spent $700 on the Volcano Grey Metallic painted exterior and $2,730 on 20" Macan S Wheels finished in Vesuvius Grey. To add, we optioned trims and roof rails in glossy black–with Porsche Dynamic Light System for $1,690.

For the interior, I chose Black Leather with deviated stitching in Chalk for ($5,850) covering the seats, center console, and steering wheel. We did not choose the premium package that adds– a panoramic roof, heated seats (front and rear), and ventilated seats (front) for $3,660. Instead, we selected individualized options like 14-way adjustable power seats and the Bose sound system for a better-than-average sound quality– in addition to Porsche Dynamic Light System (mentioned above) and 360-degree surround view for everyday driving practicalities.

After all options have been totaled– to the tune of $14,300. In addition to the destination fee, our Volcano Grey Metallic Macan S has a total price of $88,250. In today's new car market, the cost to purchase a compact luxury crossover is steadily rising. But considering its powertrain and our intended budget, I think this is the perfect daily for a couple living in the city or local business owners looking for the best compact crossover in this class. Build Specifications: "Daily" Macan S in Volcano Grey Metallic

The "Enthusiast" Macan

The Macan GTS, formerly known as the Turbo, is the top trim with a starting price of $86,000. I chose Carmine Red ($2,910) and 21" RS Spyder wheels in satin black (no-cost), which give this compact luxury crossover a more aggressive stance. GTS Package in Satin Black (No-cost option), panoramic roof ($1,670), sport chrono package ($1,220), and Porsche's LED headlights ($520) added some visual detail to the overall build.

Porsche standard red brake calipers were painted gloss black for $900– in addition to lower front valence, rear lower fascia, and side skirts painted in satin black (no-cost option).

Inside, I opted for the GTS interior in black with deviated stitching in Chalk ($4,790) and splurged a bit, with an adaptive 18-way sport seat plus ($1,510) and Burmeister sound system ($5,700). All in the enthusiast build Macan GTS came in at $107,670. Build Specifications: "Enthusiast" Macan GTS in Carmine Red
